Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team played its first match of the 2014 season in the state of Pennsylvania and played to a 0-0, double-overtime draw at Cairn University Wednesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, now 0-2-1, had a 20-14 advantage in shots including 13-9 in the second half and an 11-3 edge in corner kicks in the match. Junior goalie Brian Boland made six saves to keep the Highlanders off of the scoreboard.

The Hounds had the first shot on goal in the eighth minute when sophomore forward Saul Marcial drilled a shot that had to be saved. Freshman defender/midfielder Corey Klaskin put another shot on the net in the 23rd minute while junior midfielder Seth Reynolds put a header on goal in the 32nd minute.

The squads traded shots early in the second half before Moravian sophomore midfielder Robert McKinley, who took a team high five shots, had back-to-back shots in the 61st minute with one on goal. Freshman forward Chris Cella had a shot on the net in the 72nd minute while freshman midfielder Brett Lubben put another shot on the goal two minutes later. Klaskin hit the post in the 80th minute and Lubben followed it up 11 seconds later with shot that had to be saved.

Boland made a pair of saves in the final seven minutes of regulation for the Greyhounds while Marcial had a shot with 1:56 to play. Each team connected on one shot in the first overtime with Boland making a save in the 98th minute to keep the match scoreless.

Cella and Klaskin each had early shots on goal in the second overtime for the Greyhounds but Moravian was unable to get a shot in the net.

The Hounds will open their 2014 home season on Saturday, September 6 when Moravian welcomes Immaculata University to the HUB Quad for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference match.
