Men's Soccer Falls to Clarkson in Season Opener

POTSDAM, N.Y. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team is beginning its 2014 season in upstate New York in the North Country Lotto Classic, and the Greyhounds fell to one of the hosts Clarkson University, 2-0, in the opening round Friday afternoon.

Hounds' junior goalie Brian Boland was tested early, making his first save of the season in the third minute and a total of four stops in the first 14 minutes of action. The Greyhounds then controlled the action for the next 14 minutes with freshman defender/midfielder Corey Klaskin taking a corner kick and also putting a shot on goal in the 28th minute.

The Golden Knights scored for a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute, and Boland kept the score there before the intermission with two more saves.

In the first 25 minutes of the second half, the Hounds attempted five shots including a header from freshman defender Ryan Bartel but Moravian was still unable to find the back of the net as Clarkson extended its lead to 2-0 in the 78th minute.

Boland finished the match with seven saves, all of them coming in the first half.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, August 30 as they travel to the other host of the 2014 North Country Lotto Classic to battle St. Lawrence University at 1:00 p.m.
