Men's Soccer Earns 2-1 Victory Over Immaculata University

Bethlehem, Pa.---The Moravian College men's soccer team earned the first win of the season at their home opener, topping Immaculata University 2-1 in a heated battle.

Head Coach Todd Ervin was thrilled to get the first win and goals of the season saying this about the match, "We got two in the back of the net today, and we could have had more. We had a lot of good chances with one-on-ones on net that we need to capitalize on, but I'm happy to walk away with the win," stated Ervin.

The Greyhounds wasted no time on the attack, recording their first shot two minutes into the game, taking 21 shots total in the match. Freshman forward Chris Cella scored the equalizer around the 37 minute mark for his first goal of his collegiate career for Moravian by a pass from freshman midfielder Corey Klaskin.

"Chris Cella got his first goal as a freshman, which is such a great feeling and to do it at home was nice to see," commented Ervin.

Halftime would find the Blue and Grey and Immaculata tied at 1 a piece. Ten minutes into the second half junior forward Shane Harder would step up and score an unassisted goal giving Moravian the lead 2-1.

"We had a great showing up top today, Shane, Brett (Harder) and Saul (Marcial) looked really strong and we just need to keep this momentum going as we look toward Wednesday," said Ervin.

Sophomore forward Saul Marcial shared his thoughts on the team's first win saying, "It feels great to win. We had a hard weekend and were quite unlucky in our last match. We have to keep going we have a tough game on Wednesday against Muhlenberg but we are going to go out there."

The Moravian College men's soccer team will travel for a night game on Wednesday, September 10 at Muhlenberg College.
