Badessa Nets Two Goals in 2-1 Field Hockey Win vs. Juniata

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Junior midfielder Keriann Badessa scored a pair of second half goals on penalty corners to lead the Moravian College field hockey team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Juniata College in Landmark Conference action Saturday at Rocco Calvo Field.

The Greyhounds, now 4-6 overall and 1-3 in Landmark Conference action, earned their first win over Juniata since a 1-0 victory in Huntingdon on October 6t, 2001.  It is also Moravian's first win over the Eagles since the two schools became members of the Landmark Conference in 2007 as Juniata captured the first four Landmark Conference titles.

The Eagles would take a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when freshman forward Sara Bilheimer blasted in a crossing pass from freshman forward Steph Pagliaro for her sixth goal of the season.  Moravian nearly tied the match with just under seven minutes to go when sophomore midfielder Catherine Duffin had a shot get past the Juniata goalie before a defensive save from senior defender Jill McNeish.

Moravian would tie the game in the 48th minute on a penalty corner.  Junior midfielder Chelsea Grotyohann sent the ball out to Duffin, who sent a touch pass over to BadessaBadessa would blast the pass from the left side into the cage for her third goal of the season.  The Greyhounds took the lead just over seven minutes later on an identical play with Grotyohann starting the penalty corner with Duffin sending another touch pass to Badessa for her second tally of the match and fourth of the year.

The Greyhounds finished the match with a 9-7 edge on shots including 6-0 in the second half, and Moravian also had an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners.  Senior goalie Catherine Gottlieb made three saves for Moravian with junior defender Erin Gilbert making a defensive save in the first half for the Greyhounds.  Sophomore goalie Shelby Miller had one save for the Eagles in the final two minutes of the match while senior keeper Janelle Howard played the first 68 minutes in the cage for Juniata.  McNeish added a defensive save for the Eagles.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, October 10th in a non-conference match at rival Muhlenberg College beginning at 7:30 p.m.
