Softball Sweeps Hunter as Mack Tosses No-Hitter in 2nd Game

NEW YORK, N.Y. --- The Moravian College softball team swept Hunter College, 7-1 and 13-0 in six innings in a no-hitter by freshman Lizzie Mack, in non-conference action Tuesday on Randall's Island in New York City.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the opening game.  Freshman outfielder Dior George led off the game with a double, and she scored on a two-out RBI single from sophomore catcher Cassie Ernst.

Moravian pushed the lead to 2-0 with a run in the top half of the second inning when junior first baseman Amanda Dizinno started off with a double and scored on an RBI double from George.

 The Greyhounds extended their lead to 7-0 with five runs in the top of the fourth inning.  George walked with one out, stole second base and scored on a two-out RBI single by senior pitcher Jenna CarmonErnst followed with a single before junior third baseman Shannen Mohr connected on an RBI double to score Carmon.  Freshman outfielder Jenn Dalickas then hit her team leading fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot to right field.

Hunter would get a runs on the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI double by junior catcher Sophia Ponce.

Moravian had an 11-5 edge in hits with Ernst going three-for-four to lead the squad.  George was two-for-three while Dalickas was two-for-four with three RBIs. 

In the circle, Carmon became just the second player in school history to reach 60 career wins as she improved to 7-4 on the season.  Carmon allowed a run on five hits with seven strikeouts.  Sophomore Angel Iacovetti took the loss for Hunter after giving up seven runs on 11 hits and two walks to go with five strikeouts.

In the second contest, Moravian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning.  Mohr led off the inning with a walk, and she would score on an error.  George would add a two RBI double in the inning.

The Greyhounds pushed the lead to 6-0 with three more runs in the top half of the fifth inning.  Carmon doubled with two outs and scored on an RBI single from ErnstMohr followed with an RBI double before Dalickas connected on an RBI triple.

Moravian finished off the scoring with seven runs in the top of the sixth inning.  Carmon had an RBI single with two outs that scored two runs before Ernst connected on a two-run homer to right field, her third home run of the season.  Junior catcher Tori Thomas added an RBI single before freshman pinch hitter Bryanna Gifford had an RBI single that would send two runs across the plate to finish the scoring.

The Greyhounds had a 14-0 edge in hit with Carmon and Ernst each going three-for-four with two runs.  Ernst added three RBIs while Mohr was two-for-two with three runs.  Dalickas added a two-for-four performance.

Mack struck out eight batters in her first career no-hitter, the second of the season for the Greyhounds and the 30th no-hitter in school history.  The only base runner Mack allowed was an error in the third inning.  Sophomore Amanda Annicaro took the loss for Hunter in the circle.

Moravian returns home to Blue & Grey Field on Thursday, April 5 for a non-conference doubleheader versus Kean University beginning at 3:00 p.m.
