No. 19 Moravian Takes Two More Games From Juniata to Remain Undefeated

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The No. 19 Moravian College softball team swept Juniata College for the second straight day, winning 8-5 and 10-0 in five innings in Landmark Conference action Sunday afternoon to improve to 8-0 on the season.

How It Happened – Game 1

  • The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on four straight hits. Sophomore shortstop Alexis Agrapides led off with a single and scored on an RBI double by junior center fielder Cameron Cassidy. Senior third baseman Maddisen Bieber followed with an RBI double before senior catcher Brooke Wehr connected on a two-run homer, her second home run of the season and the 24th of her career
  • The Hounds extended the lead to 6-0 with two runs in the top of the third inning on a two-RBI single by junior right fielder Victoria Smith 
  • The Blue and Grey made it an 8-0 edge with two more runs in the top of the fourth frame as freshman Emily Silberman ripped a pinch hit two-RBI single
  • Juniata would get on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fourth, and the Eagles added three more runs in the fifth and one in the seventh then had the winning run at the plate before senior pitcher Meghan Bauer induced a ground out to end the game. Bauer finished with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief work. Sophomore Alexandia Scheeler earned her fourth win of the spring in the circle

How It Happened – Game 2

  • Moravian scored three times in the top of the first in the second contest to take a 3-0 lead. Agrapides led off with a solo home run, her first of the season and second of her career. Wehr added an RBI double while senior second baseman Shannon Brogan hit an RBI ground out
  • The Greyhounds tacked on five more runs in the top of the second to push the edge to 8-0. Cassidy started the scoring with an RBI single while Wehr had a two-RBI double. After a run scored on an error, Brogan connected on an RBI double
  • The Blue and Grey finished the scoring with two runs in the fourth frame to get to the NCAA run rule. Wehr connected on her third RBI double of the game while Silberman had an RBI single
  • Sophomore Madison Hummel went the distance in the circle with two strikeouts as she recorded her first career shutout 

First for the Hounds

  • Sophomore outfielder Nicole Cassano made her season debut in the second game

Inside the Numbers

  • Wehr tied the school record with three doubles in a game during the second contest. She is the fifth Greyhound to achieve the feat and the first since Jenn Dalickas had three doubles at Drew on April 4, 2015
  • Moravian had 24 hits on the afternoon with Wehr leading the way as she went 5-for-7 with six RBIs, three doubles and a homer. Agrapides was 4-for-7 with her homer while Cassidy, Bieber, Smith and senior left fielder Maura Kane all had three hits
  • The Greyhounds had 11 hits in the first game and 13 hits in the second contest, and the Blue and Grey have had at least 10 hits in six of eight games this spring. The Hounds have 126 hits and have scored 72 runs in eight contests
