BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College Department of Athletics and Recreation had 186 of its student-athletes receive Dean’s Honors List accolades from the College for achieving a 3.50 or higher grade-point average during the 2021 Spring semester.
“The staff and coaches in the Athletic Department are very proud of our student-athletes that achieved the Dean’s Honor List during the spring semester, especially with the challenges of another semester of in-person classes, some hybrid classes and some fully-online classes,” stated Director of Athletics & Recreation and Head Women's Basketball Coach Mary Beth Spirk. “As a Division III institution, we maintain that same philosophy in our department: in order to be a successful athlete, you must be a successful student. Our coaches understand that academics are a top priority and our athletes all know that success in the classroom comes first. Congratulations to all the Dean’s Honor List student-athletes.”
The 186 Greyhounds account for over a third of the student-athletes that began the 2020-21 academic year on teams’ rosters. The total also includes 25 student-athletes that are participating in more than one sport and 45 members of the group had a perfect 4.0 during the fall semester including 11 of the 25 multi-sport student-athletes. The athletic department accounted for 23.5 percent of Moravian’s entire 794-member Fall Dean’s Honor List.
The football squad had the most honorees with 21 student-athletes earning Dean’s Honor List accolades while the women’s soccer team had 20 student-athletes honored followed by the men’s soccer program with 16 honorees. The women’s lacrosse squad had 15 student-athletes selected to the Dean’s Honor List while the baseball team had 13 selections and the women’s track & field and field hockey squads all had 12 honorees. The women’s basketball cross country team had 11 student-athletes garner Dean’s Honor List while the men’s lacrosse and women’s cross country each had 10 selections followed by men’s cross country and women’s tennis programs with nine honorees. Rounding out the list are the softball team with eight selections, the women’s volleyball squad with seven honorees, the men’s basketball program with six selections, the men’s tennis team with three honorees and the men’s track & field and golf teams with two selections apiece. The 25 dual-sport student-athletes are listed with their first sport played during the academic year.
