Ethan Blakely
Class: 2021
Major: Biochemistry

How did you choose your sport? My mum signed me up for a "Me and My parent soccer camp" when I was four and I fell in love with the game and have been playing ever since.

Why did you come to Moravian College? I came to Moravian College because I really liked how the people here cared for both aspects of being a student athlete. I feel like Moravian gave me the best opportunity to succeed both on and off the field as well as in the future once I graduate.

What is your major and how did you choose it? Biochemistry, I chose biochemistry as I've always been interested in the sciences and I knew that it would provide me with the best opportunity to get into dental school.

What are your future plans? I plan to take a gap year to travel and work and then apply to dental school.

What is your favorite place on campus? John Makuvek Field

What activities/organizations at Moravian College have you been active in as a student-athlete? I am the Treasurer of SAAC and I am part of the Pre-Health Club.

You've been a member of SAAC. What made you choose to be part of SAAC and what has been your favorite part of working with SAAC? I wanted to be a part of SAAC because I wanted to give my fellow athletes a voice. My favorite part of being in SAAC has been being the treasurer where I get to be part of the behind-the-scenes; organizing meetings, talking to the heads of the Athletics department and the whole of SAAC. I enjoy getting the opportunity to further give my fellow athletes a voice in important matters such as policy changes.

What is your most memorable moment at Moravian? My most memorable moment at Moravian was our 2-1 win over Drew where we were losing 1-0 with under two minutes to go. We scored twice in a minute to complete the comeback and win a tough conference match. To top it off, it was homecoming so all of my friends who graduated were there on the sidelines going crazy and it was one amazing celebration after we won.

Do you have any pre-event rituals or superstitions? I always wait to put my cleats on until I get to the bench.

What advice do you have for prospective student-athletes looking to attend Moravian College? Treat every season the same, each year is 1/4th of your college career and you never know when it could be taken away from you.

What is the best piece of advice you've been given? Never let your emotions go too high or too low, stay in the middle to make the right decision.

Who are your role models/most influential people? My mum and my grandfather.

Which three people, living or dead, would you like to share a meal with? Shaquille O'Neal, Robert Downey Jr, George Best

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise most people. I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and obtained my US Citizenship in the Spring of freshman year (April 2018).
