Moravian Has Winning Streak Snapped in Landmark Conference Loss to No. 3 Scranton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad saw its four-game winning streak snapped as the Greyhounds fell to visiting No. 3 The University of Scranton, 73-45, in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds needed just 15 seconds to score the opening basket of the contest as graduate student forward Kayla Yoegel sank a three-pointer. The Royals netted the next eight points before senior guard Ashley Robinson drove in for a lay-up for the Blue & Grey. Scranton answered with six more points, and the Royals lead 19-8 after 10 minutes of action
  • Scranton began the second quarter with an 8-0 run to move ahead 27-8, and the Royals headed to the locker room with a 33-17 advantage
  • Sophomore forward Brielle Guarente opened the second half with a jumper, but the Hounds were limited to just 12 points in the quarter as Scranton pushed its edge to 61-29 after 30 minutes of play
  • Moravian would outscore the Royals, 16-12, over the final 10 minutes with Robinson draining a trio of three-pointers in the quarter 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had one player in double digits as Robinson finished with 14 points, the fifth time in her career she has scored in double figures, and Robinson also had four rebounds
  • Graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi contributed eight points, nine rebounds, three blocked shots and a pair of steals while Yoegel gad five points, seven boards and two blocked shots. Guarente also had five points with four rebounds and three assists while senior forward Emily Markowski added five points
  • Junior guard Reganne Flannery and freshman guard Jayda Cartagena both netted four points with Cartagena contributing three rebounds and a pair of assists and Flannery grabbing two boards
  • Junior forward Sam Osorio recorded six rebounds while senior guard Morgan Amy had two boards
  • The Greyhounds shot 14-for-62 from the field, 6-for-19 beyond the three-point line and 11-for-19 at the charity stripe
