Hounds Drop One-Goal Match in Pape’s Coaching Debut as Mules Score Twice in Final Minute

ALLENTOWN Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad dropped an 18-17 non-conference match at rival Muhlenberg College in the coaching debut for Greyhounds' first-year mentor Caroline Pape as the Mules netted a pair of goals on eight-meter shots in the final 58 seconds of the contest.

How It Happened

  • Muhlenberg scored the opening two goals of the match before freshman attack Jackie Salvatore connected on the Hounds' first goal of the year. Junior midfielder Megan Donnelly knotted the score with 5:17 left in the first quarter with her first goal of the afternoon. The Mules moved back in front while senior attack Eliza Fantazzi found the net as the squads were tied at 3-3 after 15 minutes of action in the new four-quarter format
  • The teams combined to put 11 goals in the cages in the second quarter. Muhlenberg scored first before Donnelly tied the match for the third time at 4-4. The Mules answered with five straight goals to build a 9-4 lead. The Blue and Grey countered with three of the final four goals of the half to head to the intermission down 10-7 after senior midfielder Lindsey Strohl netted her first goal of the afternoon late in the quarter
  • Donnelly and senior attack Kelsey Moore scored early in the third quarter as Moravian closed within a goal only to see Muhlenberg net six of the last eight goals in the third quarter to lead 16-11 after 45 minutes of play
  • The Greyhounds responded by scoring the first six goals of the fourth quarter to take their first lead of the afternoon. Strohl opened the scoring in the period with her second goal of the day to become the tenth player in Moravian's program history to reach 100 career points. When Strohl connected again off of a feed from freshman attack Madi Dippel with 6:33 to play, the Hounds had a 17-16 advantage. The Mules ended up with a pair of eight-meter shots in the final 58 seconds to earn the win

Inside the Numbers

  • Donnelly led Moravian with four goals and an assist to go with six draw controls and three ground balls while Salvatore added three goals and an assist. Strohl finished with three goals and a team-high eight draw controls while freshman midfielder Alex Cherenson also had a hat trick
  • Dippel contributed a goal, two assists and three draw controls while Moore, Fantazzi, junior midfielder Emily Hoskin all had one goal with Hoskin adding three draw controls
  • Sophomore defender Keara Reilly scooped up three ground balls to go with a pair of caused turnovers while Kelsey Moore and senior defender Meghan Moore both had two ground balls
  • Moravian had a 35-34 edge in shots, a 15-14 advantage in ground balls and a 22-17 edge in draw controls. The Greyhounds also went 14-for-15 on clears and scored four man-up goals
