Hounds Fall to Stockton in Non-Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad was tied with visiting Stockton (N.J.) University 7-7 at halftime, but the Greyhounds were unable to score in the third quarter and ended up falling to the Ospreys, 15-11, in non-conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday. 

How It Happened

  • The Hounds netted the opening goal of the match when senior midfielder Lindsey Strohl found the net at the 9:22 mark. Stockton answered with two goals before senior attack Eliza Fantazzi knotted the score at 2-2 with 3:56 to go in the first quarter. The Ospreys scored again to lead 3-2 after 15 minutes of action
  • Stockton netted the first two goals of the second quarter to stretch the advantage to 5-2. The Blue and Grey tallied the next three goals to tie the contest at 5-5 with freshman attack Jackie Salvatore scoring twice and junior attack Kendall Lomascola finding the cage once. After the Ospreys moved back in front, 6-5, Moravian scored twice to retake a 7-6 lead. Senior attack Kelsey Moore tied the match while Fantazzi notched her second goal as the Hounds had the edge with just a minute left in the half. Stockton scored with just 14.2 seconds left in the half to send the squads to halftime tied at 7-7
  • The Ospreys scored five times in the third quarter including one with 10.4 seconds left in the period while the Blue and Grey were held scoreless to give Stockton a 12-7 lead after 45 minutes of play
  • Stockton added the first two goals of the fourth quarter for a 14-7 edge before junior midfielder Emily Hoskin stopped the Moravian drought with 9:16 to play. Strohl and Fantazzi added goals as the Hounds closed within 14-10 before the Ospreys netted their final goal of the match. Lomascola tallied once more for the Greyhounds to finish the scoring

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six different players score a goal led by Fantazzi, who had three goals and two assists. Lomsacola and Salvatore both finished with two goals and an assist while Strohl contributed two goals, seven ground balls, five draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Moore had a goal and an assist while Hoskin netted one goal and had three draw controls. Freshman attack Madi Dippel had an assist for the Blue and Grey
  • Junior midfielder Megan Donnelly had four draw controls and two ground balls while senior defender Samantha Cherenson added two caused turnovers and two ground balls and senior defender Jamie Bader had a pair of ground balls
  • Junior goalie Brelyn Friedman registered three saves and four ground balls in 45 minutes of action while senior goalie Rylee Soltis had a pair of saves in the final 15 minutes
  • The Hounds had a 21-18 edge in ground balls in the match, and the squad was 19-for-23 on clears
