Moravian Rallies For Sweep at Juniata to Give Coach Paul Engelhardt 300th Career Win

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball squad rallied from a 6-0 deficit in the second game to defeat host Juniata College 7-6 after capturing the first game 18-5 as the Greyhounds opened their 2021 Landmark Conference season Saturday. The sweep also gave Head Coach Paul Engelhardt his 300th career victory.

How It Happened – Game 1

  • The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning in their first plate appearance in over a year. Senior first baseman Brett Moyer had a two-RBI single in the inning while freshman designated hitter Brett Stewart added an RBI double and freshman left fielder Connor Wengryn connected on an RBI sacrifice fly
  • Moravian doubled the lead to 8-0 with four more runs in the second inning. Graduate student third baseman Ian Csencsits, Stewart and junior catcher Nick Montone each had RBI singles while Wengryn added an RBI double
  • The Hounds pushed the edge to 10-0 with two runs in the top of the third frame on a two-RBI triple from Moyer
  • The Blue and Grey erupted for eight runs in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 18-0. Moyer drove in two more runs with a double while Montone added an RBI single. Wengryn drew a walk with the bases loaded for an RBI while sophomore second baseman Mason Fisher had an RBI sacrifice fly. Junior center fielder Robert Roman connected on a two-RBI single while the final run scored on an error
  • Juniata would get on the scoreboard with a run in the fifth inning and four more in the bottom of the seventh
  • Junior Eddie Olsen earned the win on the mound for the Greyhounds as he struck out six batters in six innings of action

How It Happened – Game 2

  • The Eagles scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning and one more in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead
  • The Hounds closed the gap to 6-4 with a four-run sixth inning. Stewart was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the first run while the second run crossed the plate on a balk. An error by Juniata would allow two more runs to score
  • Moravian took the lead in the top of the seventh with three runs on an RBI single from Moyer and a two-RBI double by Montone that was the game-winning hit
  • Junior Kyle Petsch earn the victory on the mound for the Hounds with four innings of relief work

Inside the Numbers

  • Coach Engelhardt now has a career mark of 300-242-1 in his 15th season leading the Greyhounds
  • Moyer was 4-for-6 on the day with seven RBIs, five runs scored, a double and a triple. He had six RBIs in the opener, just one shy of the school record for a single game
  • Montone went 4-for-7 with four RBIs and a double while Stewart was 3-for-6 in his collegiate debut with three RBIs
  • Roman had a 3-for-7 day with four runs and two RBIs
  • Csencsits scored four runs while senior shortstop Michael Miceli crossed the plate five times without reaching base on a hit during the two games
