Golf in 3rd Place after 3rd Round of Empire 8 Championships

HERSHEY, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team is in third place with one round remaining in the 2011-12 Empire 8 Conference Championships after the opening round of the final 36 holes at the Hershey Country Club Saturday.

The Greyhounds, who were third after the two rounds last fall, had a team score of 324 Saturday and have a team total of 935 heading into the final round. St. John Fisher College sits in first place with a team score of 891 while Elmira College is second at 925.  Moravian has a three-stroke lead over The University of Scranton, which is in fourth place.

Individually, Moravian junior Thomas Fenyak is in third place, four strokes off the lead after 54 holes. Fenyak had a round of 75 on the par 71 East Course at the Hershey Country Club Saturday, the third lowest round of the day.  Senior Scott Stires is currently tied for sixth at 229 after an 81 in the third round while senior John Dimler is 15th with a 236 after carding an 81 Saturday.  Senior Sam Stires is tied for 19th at 243 with a third round score of 87 while junior Aaron Thieme is 28th of 35 golfers that have played all three rounds with a 259 including a third round of 87.  Junior Tyler Thompson is also competing in the 36 holes this spring for the Greyhounds, and he carded a 92 on Saturday.

Moravian will close out the 2011-12 Empire 8 Conference Championships on Sunday, April 22nd with the final round on the East Course of the Hershey Country Club beginning at 8:00 a.m.
