Greyhound Men Win Three Events at Ithaca College Quad Meet

ITHACA, N.Y. --- The Moravian University men's indoor track & field squad captured three event titles and tied for third with 30 points at the Ithaca College Quad Meet Friday as the Greyhounds competed for the first time in over a month. The host Bombers took first in the meet with 77 points.

Event Winners

  • Sophomore Josh Mangini won the 5,000-meter run in the opening event with a time of 16:05.83 to earn five points in his first collegiate indoor track race
  • Graduate student Shane Mastro captured the shot put with an All-Atlantic Regional Track & Field qualifying toss of 14.54 meters (47-8.5) to earn another five points for the Greyhounds
  • Senior Shane Houghton finished first in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:54.28, just missing a PR in the event by 0.24 seconds 

Top 4 Scoring Finishes

  • Sophomore Casey Frank added a point for Moravian with a fourth-place finish in the mile run in a time of 4:41.45 in his first career indoor meet
  • Senior Tim King took fourth in the shot put with a distance of 12.98 meters (42-7)
  • Sophomore Brendon Ward was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.12 while senior Brad Clemson took third in 2:16.13 and freshman Wyatt Poniktera placed fourth at 2:21.51 as Moravian earned six points in the event
  • Sophomore Jared Santos took fourth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.45 seconds to earn one point for the Hounds
  • Senior Max Schuman was third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.81 meters (38-9) for two points
  • The Greyhounds "B" 4x400-meter relay team of Mangini, Houghton and Poniktera and freshman Jake Farrell finished second in a time of 3:47.85 to earn three points while the "A" relay squad of Frank, Clemson, junior Liam Duffy and senior Richard Glennon was third in 4:07.80
  • Junior Dan Jenkins was fourth in the weight throw with an AARTF qualifying and PR toss of 15.18 meters (49-9.75) for one point 

Other Top 8 Finishes

  • Farrell finished sixth in the mile run in a time of 4:45.83
  • Sophomore Jeremy Goll placed seventh in the shot put with a toss of 12.08 meters (39-7.75) while junior Adam Gildea finished eighth at 10.77 meters (35-4)
  • Freshman Joe Tivade was seventh in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles in 10.52 seconds after qualifying sixth in a time of 10.62 seconds
  • Sophomore Marco Calantoni took fifth in the 60-meter dash in 7.44 seconds while Santos was one spot back in sixth in 7.49 seconds. Santos had qualified for the finals in fifth at 7.42 seconds in his first career indoor race while Calantoni was sixth in the prelims at 7.48 seconds
  • Freshman Jason Gartner placed sixth in the 200-meter dash in 25.27 seconds while Calantoni was eighth in 25.78 seconds
  • Freshman Owen Nahf placed sixth in the 3,000-meter run in 9:19.34 while Duffy finished seventh in 9:21.74 and freshman Nathan Hajel took eighth in 9:36.21. It was the first indoor collegiate race for Nahf and Hajel while Duffy ran an indoor PR in the event
  • King took fifth in the weight throw at 14.76 meters (48-5.25) while Mastro finished sixth with a mark of 14.40 meters (47-3) and sophomore Derek Mason placed eighth at 12.33 meters (40-5.5)
