Moravian Men Finish Third at 2022 Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's indoor track & field squad finished third in the 2022 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday. The Greyhounds recorded 95 points while the host River Hawks were first with 189 points.

It marks just the second time in the 15-year history of the Landmark Conference that the Hounds have not won the conference title with Moravian as the runner-up in 2009. There was no meet in 2021 due to the pandemic.

Event Winners

  • The Greyhounds' 4,000-meter distance medley relay team of senior Brad Clemson, sophomore Casey Frank and freshmen Jake Farrell and Geoffrey Kleinberg won the race with a time of 10:55.85
  • Junior Dan Jenkins captured first in the 35-pound weight throw with a PR and All-Atlantic Region Track & Field qualifying toss of 16.09 meters (52-9), which is also the third best mark in program history
  • Graduate student Peter Gingrich  won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.39
  • Graduate student Shane Mastro captured the shot put with an AARTF qualifying toss of 15.13 meters (49-7.75) in the final field event of the meet

Top 6 Scoring Finishes

  • Mastro was the runner-up in the weight throw with a PR and AARTF qualifying distance of 15.70 meters (51-6) while senior Tim King took third with a PR and AARTF qualifying mark of 15.63 meters (51-3)
  • King would be the runner-up in the shot put with a distance of 13.17 meters (43-2.5
  • Senior Dominic DeRafelo was second in the mile run with a PR time of 4:24.34
  • Freshman Trevor Gray took fourth in the 60-meter dash finals in 7.17 seconds after qualifying fifth in 7.19 seconds
  • Freshman Nathan Hajel finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:57.11 while junior Liam Duffy took sixth in 16:02.19
  • Junior Max Schuman placed fifth in the pole vault at a height of 3.95 meters (12-11.5)
  • Senior Shane Houghton was third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:47.01, which was better than the previous best in the Landmark Championships
  • The final track event was the 4x400-meter relay where the Greyhounds' squad of Gingrich, DeRafelo, Clemson and Kleinberg was fourth in a time of 3:39.15

Top 10 Finishes

  • Sophomore Josh Mangini was seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:09.19
  • Freshman Joe Tivade was ninth in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries in a time of 9.63 seconds while junior Ethan Cherubin was tenth in 10.66 seconds
  • Sophomore Jared Santos placed eighth in the 60-meter dash preliminaries in 7.32 seconds while freshman Owen Sabastro was ninth in 7.41 seconds
  • Gingrich finished seventh in the mile run with a PR time of 4:27.44 while Houghton was ninth in 4:29.59 and freshman Owen Nahf took tenth in 4:38.10
  • DeRafelo placed eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:04.08
  • Kleinberg finished eighth in the 400-meter dash with a PR of 54.68 seconds while sophomore Paul Petre was one spot back with a PR time of 54.98 seconds
  • Gray was seventh in the 200-meter dash in 23.72 seconds while sophomore Matt Shea was ninth with an indoor PR of 23.88 seconds in the race
  • Mangini took eighth in the 3,000-meter run in 9:17.85 while Duffy finished tenth in a time of 9:23.81
  • Junior Adam Gildea finished eighth in the shot put at a PR distance of 11.47 meters (37-7.75)

PR Distances/Times

  • Freshman Jason Gartner posted a PR time of 9.90 seconds in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries
  • Junior Christian Jancsarics recorded a PR of 4:56.62 in the mile run
  • Freshman Wyatt Poniktera ran a PR time of 56.44 seconds in the 400-meter dash
  • Frank recorded a PR time of 2:07.08 in the 800-meter run
