Hounds Fall by a Goal in Non-Conference Action at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad fell by a goal, 12-11, at Widener University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon. 

How It Happened

  • The Pride netted the first two goals before senior attack Kendall Lomascola got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard with 8:13 left in the first quarter. Widener scored once more to hold a 3-1 edge after 15 minutes of action
  • The Blue & Grey scored twice in the first four minutes of the second quarter with goals from senior attack Devin King and freshman midfielder Gianna Lotito knotting the match at 3-3. The Pride netted the next two goals before sophomore midfielder Madi Dippel found the net. Widener scored again and took a 6-4 advantage into the intermission
  • The Pride tallied first in the second half before Dippel cut it back to a two-goal deficit just over three minutes into the third quarter. Widener countered just 20 second later to move ahead 8-5, and the Pride had three more goals in the period while sophomore attack Jackie Salvatore and graduate student attack Brittany Bill both had goals for the Hounds with Widener leading 11-7 after 45 minutes of play
  • Moravian netted the first two goals of the fourth quarter to pull within two goals at 11-9 after Bill and Lomascola each scored in a span of just over a minute. Widener scored to make it 12-9 before Salvatore and Bill scored 30 seconds apart to get the Greyhounds within a goal at 12-11 with just over three minutes to play; however, that would be the end of the scoring in the contest

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six different players score with Bill netting a hat trick to go with a pair of caused turnovers. Lomascola, Dippel and Salvatore each scored two goals with Lomascola contributing two ground balls and two caused turnovers, Dippel scooping up two ground balls and Salvatore adding four ground balls, three caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls
  • King recorded a goal and an assist while Lotito had a goal and five ground balls
  • Senior midfielder Megan Donnelly had five ground balls and two caused turnovers while junior defender Keara Reilly contributed three ground balls and three caused turnovers and sophomore midfielder Alex Cherenson scooped up four ground balls
  • Senior goalie Rylie Soltis registered six saves for the Greyhounds
  • Both squads took 28 shots in the match with the Blue & Grey holding a 30-28 edge in ground balls. Moravian also went 16-for-16 on clearing attempts in the contest
