Moravian Streaks Past FDU-Florham in Final Non-Conference Match of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse squad scored four goals in just under four minutes in the first quarter to send the Hounds on the way to a 22-12 victory over visiting FDU-Florham in the final non-conference match of the 2023 season on John Makuvek Field Wednesday as Moravian won its seventh consecutive contest. 

How It Happened

  • The Devils scored the opening goal at the 13:46 mark while graduate student Eliza Fantazzi netted the Greyhounds first goal just 26 seconds later, sparking a 4-0 run by the Blue & Grey. Graduate student attack Brittany Bill scored twice during the run while sophomore midfielder Alex Cherenson scored once. FDU-Florham stopped the run with a goal; however, sophomore attack Jackie Salvatore hit the net twice for Moravian to make it 6-2. The Devils added one more mark before Bill scored the final goal of the period as the Hounds led 7-3 after 15 minutes of action
  • Bill also opened the scoring in the second quarter with Salvatore and senior attack Devin King finding the net to push the advantage to 10-3. FDU-Florham countered with five of the last six goals in the first half with just senior midfielder Megan Donnelly scoring for Moravian as the Blue & Grey held an 11-8 edge at halftime
  • The Devils began the second half with a goal to pull within two at 11-9. Moravian answered with six consecutive goals as Donnelly and Bill netted two markers apiece and Salvatore and Cherenson each scored once to put the Greyhounds ahead 17-9 heading to the final quarter
  • FDU-Florham scored early in the fourth quarter before Salvatore and sophomore midfielder Madi Dippel found the net. The Devils added two more goals while Salvatore scored once more and Cherenson netted the final two goals of the contest

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had seven different players score a point with Salvatore leading the way with 10 points on six goals and four assists to go with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Bill also netted six goals to go with an assist, three draw controls and two caused turnovers while Cherenson contributed four goals and two ground balls
  • Donnelly recorded four goals and seven draw controls while King had a goal and two assists and both Fantazzi and Dippel each scored once
  • Senior goalie Rylie Soltis had three saves in the first 30 minutes of the contest while senior goalie Brelyn Friedman added two saves in the second half
  • Junior defender Keara Reilly recorded three caused turnovers while junior defender Alise Downey had a pair of ground balls as she limited the Devils' leading scorer to just one goal. Senior midfielder Emily Hoskin scooped up three ground balls
  • The Hounds posted a 39-24 edge in shots, an 18-6 advantage in ground balls and went 18-for-18 on clearing attempts
