Hounds Fall in Five Sets to Lancaster Bible

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball squad fell by a 3-2 final score to visiting Lancaster Bible College in Johnston Hall Tuesday evening.

The Chargers took the opening set 25-17 before the Greyhounds posted 25-23 and 25-18 set victories to take a 2-1 lead. The Hounds had a 21-14 advantage in the fourth set when Lancaster Bible scored 11 straight points to even the score 2-2 with a 25-21 set win. The Chargers then went on to earn a 15-7 win in the fifth set to complete the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Sela Herber led the Blue and Grey with 13 kills to go with eight digs and three service aces while sophomore middle blocker Jess Appleton had nine kills and four blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Renee Mapa contributed eight kills and a pair of blocks while junior right side hitter Emerson Gieryic and sophomore outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach each had six kills with Gieryic having four digs and two blocks and Dreisbach adding 24 digs and a pair of service aces.

Senior setter Victoria Kauffman led the Moravian offense with 34 assists to go with six digs, two kills and two service aces while freshman defensive specialist Gabby Mancini had 15 digs, six service aces and three assists. Freshman defensive specialist Gabby Mineo contributed 11 digs and a pair of service aces while freshman setter Natalie Matos added seven digs.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to begin their 2019 Landmark Conference season on Saturday, October 5 when the squad heads to Elizabethtown College to play the Blue Jays at 11:00 a.m. and then Goucher College at 4:00 p.m.
