Moravian Falls to Scranton in Landmark Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball squad jumped out to a 1-0 lead before falling to visiting The University of Scranton, 3-1, in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening.

The Greyhounds took the opening set, 25-21, and had an early 6-3 lead in the second set before the Royals rallied for a 25-21 win to even the match. Scranton raced out to a 25-11 victory in the third set before watching the Hounds take a 6-2 lead in the fourth set. The Royals rallied again for a 25-21 set win to take the contest 3-1.

Sophomore outside hitter Sela Herber led the Blue and Grey with 12 kills to go with eight digs while sophomore middle blockers Jess Appleton and Renee Mapa each added seven kills and three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Kirah Dreisbach contributed five kills, 14 digs and three service aces while freshman defensive specialists Gabby Mancini and Gabby Mineo each had three service aces with Mancini adding a team-high 16 digs. Senior setter Victoria Kauffman had a team-leading 22 assists to go with 12 digs while freshman setter Taylor Morley added seven assists and a pair of kills. Senior defensive specialist Alexis Szaro contributed eight digs while junior right side hitter Emerson Gieryic had two kills and a pair of blocks.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, October 26 in a tri-match at Lebanon Valley College with the Greyhounds taking on Eastern University at 12:00 p.m. and the host Flying Dutchmen at 2:00 p.m.
