Alexis Szaro selected as Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Volleyball

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Alexis Szaro has been selected as the 2019 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Volleyball.

The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the six fall honorees are being announced this week.

Szaro was a four-year defensive specialist/libero for the Greyhounds, and she had 200 digs, 29 assists, 22 service aces and four kills this season over 95 sets. In her career, Szaro registered 903 digs, 90 service aces, 63 assists and 10 kills in 430 sets over 129 career matches. She was selected to the 2019 Landmark Conference Fall All-Sportsmanship Team.

Off the court, Szaro has maintained a 3.96 GPA in sociology with a minor in education. Szaro has made Moravian's Dean's List six times, and she is a three-time selection to the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. Szaro is also part of Moravian's Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, Alpha Delta Kappa International Sociology Honor Society and Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. For the last three seasons, Szaro has helped coordinate Moravian's Gold Out for Pediatric Cancer during a match in September and has given a brief speech each year prior to the start of that contest.

"I'm so proud of Lexie for earning this academic award," commented Head Coach Shelley Bauder. "She is such a diligent student and always wants to strive for her best not only in the classroom but on the court as well. It was a pleasure to coach a student-athlete such as Lexie who has high standards for herself, was so driven to succeed yet always had time to help her teammates with whatever they needed."

Szaro is Moravian's 32nd Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete since the conference began in 2007-08, and she is the first women's volleyball student-athlete to be honored.
