SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball squad closed out the 2022 season with a 10-3 loss at The University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action Sunday.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior outfielder Robert Roman led off with a walk and moved to third on a one-out single by junior designated hitter Derek Holmes, his 68th hit of the season to take sole possession of Moravian's single season hit record. After the second out of the inning, junior shortstop Mason Fisher drew a walk to load the bases, and junior second baseman Chris Pow followed with a two-RBI single to left field as Roman and Holmes crossed the plate
  • The Blue and Grey added a run in the top of the second frame to stretch the advantage to 3-0. Roman singled with two outs before a bunt single by sophomore outfielder Matt Madigan and a single to left field from Holmes loaded the bases. Graduate student first baseman Brett Moyer connected on an RBI single to left field to bring Roman across the plate again
  • The Royals got onto the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the second to cut the Hounds' edge to 3-1, and Scranton took the lead with four runs in the bottom half of the third inning to move in front, 5-3
  • The host Royals tacked on another four runs in the fourth frame to make it a 9-3 contest before scoring once more in the fifth inning
