BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball squad fell to visiting Neumann University, 9-2, in non-conference action at Gillespie Field Tuesday afternoon.
How It Happened
- The Knights opened the scoring with a run in the top of the third inning on their first of the contest
- The Greyhounds answered with a run in the bottom of the third to knot the score at 1-1. Senior center fielder Matt Madigan had a bunt single to begin the frame, and he raced home from second on an RBI single through the right side from junior first baseman Cole Cherkas
- Neumann moved back in front with a run in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 edge
- The Knights extended the advantage to 7-1 with a five-run seventh inning, and Neumann plated one run in the eighth frame to make it 8-1
- Neumann finished of its scoring with a run in the top of the 9th
- The Hounds added a run in the bottom of the ninth with sophomore third baseman Jaden Clements each drawing one-out walks, and Clements eventually racing home on a wild pitch
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had seventh hits in the contest with Madigan going 2-for-3 to lead the squad, and he walked twice to reach base in four out of five plate appearances
- Cherkas had a hit and an RBI while freshman second baseman Owen Hutchinson, junior outfielder Patrick Benolken, freshman catcher James Ruban III and junior outfielder David Olsakowski all had one hit
- Senior AJ Gordon started on the mound for the Hounds and tossed two innings while freshman Max Sponheimer pitched an inning. Senior Kenny Kunzman saw an inning of action while senior Garrison Koch tossed two innings and posted one strikeout. Senior Matt Ciarrocchi pitched a third of an inning while senior Andrew Connallon saw two-thirds of an inning. Senior Tyler Valentine tossed an inning while sophomore Chris Medei pitched the final inning
