Track and Field Heads to Juniata for Landmark Championship

Track and Field Heads to Juniata for Landmark Championship

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The 2016 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship is set for May 7-8 in Huntingdon, Pa. for its ninth year at host school Juniata College. The Moravian women have been the only team to ever win the Outdoor Track & Field Championships and are looking to keep that tradition alive looking for number nine as the men are looking to keep their top spot after holding off the Crusaders last spring.

The meet begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday with the 10,000-meter run. Admission is free to everyone for the two-day event, and you can find the schedule of events on the Juniata website at http://www.juniatasports.net/Landmark_Outdoor_Championships_Schedule.pdf. There will also be live results that will be posted as they become available which can also be found on the Juniata page or here at http://old.mdtimingllc.com/outdoor_2016/landmark/index.htm.

The Greyhounds will look to their returners to have big performances throughout the two days of competitions. On the women's side, senior Corinne Glass looks to repeat her performance from last year which she won the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes while taking second in the 100-meter dash and helping the 4x100 meter relay to a first place victory. Glass is a two-time Track Athlete of the Year, winning the award last spring as well as indoors this season. Also looking to have a big meet for the Blue and Grey is sophomore Melissa Cheong, who is the reigning Indoor Co-Field Athlete of the Year as well as the long jump champ and runner-up in the high jump while teammate Jackie Finnegan hopes to take home some important points in the throwing events.

On the men's side, Moravian will be looking for the likes of junior Kahron Walker, graduate student Parker Munson and junior Greg Cahill to come up big for the Greyhounds. Walker was named the Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Year last year for the outdoor meet while also taking home victories in the triple jump and the high jump. Cahill won the Indoor Field Athlete of the Year back in March for his finishes in the weight throw and shot put while Munson has recorded new school records in both the shot put and discus this spring. The men will also look for juniors Austin Gardener in the sprints and Cory Taggert in the middle distance events, who have had strong showings throughout the spring.

Both of Moravian's squads look to post ECAC qualifying times if they haven't done so already and hope the depth they have in almost all of the events can create more postseason berths, and hopefully another Landmark Conference title for both teams.
