ROME, Ga. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team rallied from a pair of two-point deficits to earn a 5-4 victory over Transylvania (Ky.) University in the opening round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Tournament in a regional being played at the Rome (Ga.) Tennis Center Thursday afternoon.
How It Happened
- Transylvania earned the first two points of the match, capturing wins at first and second doubles
- The Greyhounds got on the scoreboard with an 8-6 victory at third doubles from sophomores Julianne Cassady and Cristina Merone to pull Moravian within 2-1 heading into singles play
- Moravian evened the score with a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles from senior Kristen Cassidy
- Transylvania moved back in front with victories at second and third singles
- Sophomore Maddie Figiel earned a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at sixth singles as the Greyhounds moved within 4-3
- Cassady tied the match again at 4-4 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at fourth singles
- The contest would come down to first singles where senior Emma Angle posted a 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 7-5 win to earn Moravian its second NCAA Tournament win in the last three years
