Moravian Defeats Wilkes to Remain Second In Landmark Standings

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis team defeated host Wilkes University, 8-1, in Landmark Conference action Saturday to remain second in the conference standings.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds swept the doubles action for an early 3-0 lead. Seniors Emily Masters and Gabby Martin start the contest with an 8-1 win at third doubles while freshmen Sydney Shifman and Leah Zolotareva won 8-5 at second doubles in their first contest of a doubles duo this season. Senior Mara Stapleton and sophomore Izzy Szmodis posted an 8-7 (7-4) triumph at first doubles
  • Zolotareva made it 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at first singles while Martin earned the winning team point with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at fifth singles. Masters added a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at sixth singles while Stapleton won 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles and Szmodis recoded a 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 win at second singles
