BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University Department of Athletics and Recreation had 200 of its student-athletes receive Dean's Honors List accolades from the University for achieving a 3.50 or higher grade-point average during the 2023 Fall semester, and the Greyhound student-athletes posted a department-wide 3.21 GPA for the fall term.
"The Athletic Department staff and coaches are very proud of our student-athletes that earned spots on the Dean's Honor List for the fall semester," stated Director of Athletics & Recreation and Head Women's Basketball Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "As a Division III institution, we maintain that same philosophy in our department: in order to be a successful athlete, you must be a successful student. Our coaches understand that academics are a top priority and our athletes all know that success in the classroom comes first. Congratulations to all the Dean's Honor List student-athletes."
The 200 Greyhounds account for over 43 percent of the student-athletes that began the 2023-24 academic year on teams' rosters. The total also includes 32 student-athletes that are participating in more than one sport and 45 members of the group had a perfect 4.0 during the fall semester including 12 of the 32 multi-sport student-athletes. The athletic department accounted for nearly 25 percent of Moravian's more than 800-member Fall Dean's Honor List.
The women's soccer squad had the most honorees with 26 student-athletes earning Dean's Honor List accolades while the women's cross country and softball squads had 17 student-athletes honored followed by the baseball and men's lacrosse programs with 15 honorees each. The football, men's soccer, women's lacrosse and women's track & field squads each had 12 student-athletes selected to the Dean's Honor List while the field hockey team had 11 selections and the men's cross country and women's volleyball squads both had 10 honorees. The women's tennis program had a total of seven honorees while the women's basketball team had six student-athletes garner Dean's Honor List. The men's basketball and men's golf squads had four selections followed by men's tennis and men's track & field programs with three honorees. Rounding out the list were the women's golf and women's swimming teams with two selections each. The 32 dual-sport student-athletes are listed with their first sport played during the academic year.
