Moravian Announces 2024 Award Winners at Second Annual All-Athlete Awards Banquet

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University honored its 2023-24 student-athletes with its Second Annual All-Athlete Awards Banquet in Johnston Hall Monday evening sponsored by the Greyhounds' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The Greyhounds handed out their annual Senior Awards as softball standout Madi Cunningham was selected as the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete while men's lacrosse player Connor James was honored with the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete. The Blue & Grey Scholar Athlete awards were presented to field hockey student-athlete Bekkah Kehoe, who has a 4.00 GPA and is majoring in special education and early childhood education with a minor in French, and men's soccer player Vito Leone, who maintains a 3.81 GPA and is majoring in computer science and economics.

The H.T.D. Gillespie Award for outstanding service to Moravian's athletics program was presented to Bill Bond, a driver for Transbridge Bus Lines who has been one of the main drivers for the Greyhound athletic teams for the last 30 years.

With the Greyhounds' spring teams still in competition, the awards window was the Spring 2023 season, the Fall 2023 campaign and the Winter 2023-24 season. The evening also included a Blue Carpet entrance for all student-athletes.

SAAC presented individual awards for Male Newcomer of the Year to football player Jordan Bingham, Female Newcomer of the Year to softball student-athlete Sarah DeStefano, Moravian Athletics Best Character to women's cross country, women's swimming and women's track & field athlete Catie Lovett, Moravian Athletics Spirit Award to women's lacrosse student-athlete Salome Carr, Male Athlete of the Year to men's cross country runner Nathan Hajel and Female Athlete of the Year to softball pitcher Madi Cunningham.

St. Luke's Sports Medicine presented the Comeback Athlete of the Year to men's cross country and track & field runner Owen Nahf.

SAAC also had team awards for the Highest GPA going to Men's Golf and Women's Cross Country, Most Decorated Team going to Softball, Most Community Service Hours going to the Men's Lacrosse squad and Play of the Year going to the men's soccer squad for a bicycle kick goal by senior Donald Gibbs for the winning goal in a 2-1 victory at Penn State-Abington.

The Iron Hounds Sports Performance Awards were given to the Men's Lacrosse and Softball teams.

Moravian concluded the night with a roll call of the 100 graduating senior student-athletes, presenting them with their framed varsity letter and a student-athlete stole for commencement. The Greyhounds also inducted 87 members into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. Chi Alpha Sigma is the first national scholar-athlete society to honor collegiate student-athletes who have excelled in both the classroom and in athletic competition. Greyhounds who have a cumulative grade point average over a 3.4 after the fall of their junior year are inducted into the honor society and both seniors and juniors who maintain a cumulative 3.4 grade point average are honored yearly.
