Gavin Hefferan, Men's Cross Country - Landmark
Moravian University junior Gavin Hefferan has been selected as the Landmark Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his performance during the week of September 15-21.
Hefferan paced the No. 25 Greyhounds to a runner-up finish at the Stockton Osprey Open. Hefferan recorded a third-place finish among the 162 runners on the 8,000-meter course with a time of 25:10.87.
“Gavin battled a terrible respiratory illness much of the last two weeks, so we weren’t quite sure how he’d bounce back on Saturday,” commented Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. “Due to this, he held back a little bit when a major move in the race was made at four miles in, which in hindsight he knew he could have covered, but wanted to play it safe given the uncertainty heading into the meet. He still managed to finish in the top 3 and run about 1:10 faster than he ran 12 months ago on the same course, so he’s clearly at a very encouraging level for what he wants to accomplish over the next two months.”
