Tara Smurla, Women's Cross Country - Sodexo
Senior Tara Smurla of the Moravian University’s women’s cross country team has been honored the Sodexo Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.
Smurla, who earned her second Sodexo Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the year, won her second straight NCAA Division III Metro Regional title on Saturday, finishing first of the 192 runners in a personal best time of 21:11.4, taking 15 seconds off of her PR to win the race by one second and help the Greyhounds to a third place team finish. Smurla, whose time is the third fastest in program and second best in Landmark Conference history, garnered her fourth All-Region honor, and she is heading to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the third consecutive fall as one of the top seven individuals not on a qualifying team. Smurla also became Moravian's second two-time Regional Champion, joining Heidi Wolfsberger, who won the regional title in 2000 and 2001.
Smurla is slated to close out the 2025 season on Saturday, November 22 in the 2025 NCAA Division III National Championships at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina at 11:00 a.m.
