Mariana Freitas is entering her 10th season working with the tennis program at Moravian in 2023-24 and her third year as Director of Tennis after being promoted to the position in July 2021. In her first year leading the programs, Freitas led the women to a 14-4 record and a berth in the Landmark Conference Championship match and the men to an 8-7 mark. She served as the interim director at the end of the 2020-21 season and guided the women to a Landmark Conference title and first round win in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

A Lisbon, Portugal native, Freitas attended NCAA Division II the University of West Alabama, a top five ranked team in the South Region for two years, where she earned All-Conference and All-Academic teams and was chosen by her teammates to serve as captain. She transferred to NCAA Division I Tarleton State University in Texas, which was ranked in the top five in the South Central region and Top 15 nationally, where again she earned All-Conference Honorable Mention, All-Conference and All-Academic honors. Freitas was a regionally ranked player in both singles and doubles during her entire playing career.

Freitas was a member of the Portugal National Tennis Team between the ages of 10-17 and was ranked in the top five in the nation as a junior in Portugal.

After earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology, Freitas was asked to join the coaching staff at Tarleton while she earned her Master of Biological Sciences. She has also earned a Dual Master's degree in Business Administration (completed in May 2020) and Health Administration (completed in May 2021) from Moravian.
