LANCASTER, Pa. --- Senior defensive lineman Allen Petros (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS) of the Moravian College football team has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Greyhounds' 24-12 win at Dickinson College on Saturday.
Junior running back Joe Tegan (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Township HS) and senior kicker Ian Heck (Easton, Pa./Easton HS) earned spots on the Weekly Honor Roll for their performances at Dickinson.
Petros, pictured at right, helped Moravian to its first win of the season and the first win for new head coach Jeff Pukszyn in by spending a majority of the afternoon in the Red Devils backfield. Petros had nine tackles, seven solo, to go with two and a half tackles for loss of 12 yards, one sack for a loss of ten yards and a froced fumble. He was also near the Dickinson quarterbacks on all four of Moravian's interceptions in the game. Petros extended his school career record to 50 career tackles for loss, and he is third with 23.5 sacks in his career.
Tegan, pictured at left, had 21 carries for a career high 131 yards including a two-yard touchdown run that put Moravian ahead 17-6 midway through the first quarter. Tegan's only other 100-yard game was last November against Muhlenberg College.
Heck, pictured at right, scored six points in the victory. He connected on a 31-yard field goal to tie the game, and he also had three extra-points. Heck's did have a 25-yard field goal late in the game that was blocked but Moravian was leading 24-12 at the time. Heck averaged 55.4 yards on five kickoffs in the game.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 1 when the squad hosts Ursinus College in a Centennial Conference game at Rocco Calvo Field. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on Take a Kid to the Game Day.
