Hounds Move Up to Third Place After Second Round of Empire 8 Championships

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. --- The Moravian College golf team improved by 18 strokes Sunday to move up one spot to third at the 2016-17 Empire 8 Conference Championships after the second round of the fall was played at Timber Banks Country Club.

The Greyhounds fired a 316 on Sunday and sit in third place with a team score of 650, 13 strokes behind Stevens Institute of Technology. St. John Fisher College leads the tournament after 36 holes with a 608. The tournament will resume for the two spring rounds on April 14 and 15 at the Hershey Country Club.

Junior Tyler Smith is in fifth place of 47 golfers through 36 holes with a 154 after shooting a three-over par 75 on Sunday in a round that included a birdie and 13 pars. Senior Dan Leppert is tied for 11th with a 164 after a 78 in the second round that included 10 pars and a birdie while sophomore Kody Long is tied for 14th at 166 with an 82 on Sunday with a pair of birdies and nine pars on the day. Junior Kevin Kunkle is tied for 20th with a total of 169 after an 84 in the second round with seven pars while sophomore Joe Rochelle is tied for 24th at 172 after shooting an 81 Sunday's second round with two birdies and eight pars.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Monday, October 3 when the squad plays in the Muhlenberg College Invitational at the Lehigh Country Club.
