Hounds in Fourth After Opening Round of Empire 8 Championships

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. --- The Moravian College golf team is in fourth place after the opening round of the 2016-17 Empire 8 Conference Championships Saturday with the first two rounds being played at the Timber Banks Country Club this weekend.

The Greyhounds had a team score of 334 in the opening round and trail the University of Scranton by a stroke and Stevens Institute of Technology by 12 strokes. St. John Fisher College sits in first place with a 313 opening round.

Junior Tyler Smith is tied for fourth after the opening 18 holes with a round of 79 that featured one birdie and 10 pars. Sophomore Kody Long is tied for 14th with first round score of 84 that included a birdie and 10 pars while junior Kevin Kunkle is in 20th place with an opening round of 85 with 10 pars.

Senior Dan Leppert is tied for 21st at 86 after shooting a birdie and six pars while senior Anthony Beltrami and sophomore Joe Rochelle are tied for 35th with opening rounds of 91. Beltrami had a pair of birdies and five pars while Rochelle had one birdie and five pars.

The second round of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday, September 18 also at Timber Banks Country Club.
