Hounds Improve to 3-0 with 11-4 Win at Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. --- Freshman attack Mark Laratta netted seven goals, tied for the second most in a single match in school history, to lead the Moravian College men's lacrosse team to an 11-4 non-conference win at Keystone College Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, who are in their first varsity season since 2010 this year after five seasons on the club level, are now 3-0 on the year.

Laratta added an assist for eight total points, tied for the eighth most in a single contest, while freshman attack Jack Gozzard found the cage twice. Freshman midfielder Christopher Klodowski added a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds while freshman midfielder AJ Cioffi netted Moravian's final goal. Senior midfielder Dave Fiumara and freshman midfielder Dominick Gurreri each added an assist in the victory.

Freshman goalie Kurt Dick had six saves in 54 minutes of action while freshman keeper Michael Smith made four saves in the final six minutes of action. Fiumara, junior defender Ed Delia and freshman defender John Polich all had five ground balls for the Greyhounds with Delia causing three turnovers. Freshman midfielder Rick Guerra was 7-of-8 on face-offs with four ground balls while freshman midfielder Jake Burcaw added four ground balls.

The Blue and Grey led 4-0 after the first period with two goals from Laratta, one from Gozzard and a man-up tally by Klodowski. Laratta finished his hat trick in the second period as Moravian had a 5-1 lead at halftime. Laratta had three more goals in the third quarter including a man-up goal as the Greyhounds had an 8-3 lead after 45 minutes of action.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 9 when the Greyhounds host rival Muhlenberg College in a non-conference match starting at 3:30 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field in Bethlehem.
