Men's Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Contest at Goucher

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end as the Greyhounds dropped a 22-14 non-conference match at Goucher College Saturday in a battle of future conference rivals.

The Hounds are now 10-3 on the year as the squad is in its first varsity season since 2010 this spring after five years on the club level. Moravian will join Goucher in the Landmark Conference next season after playing 2016 as an independent.

Freshman attack Mark Laratta led Moravian with seven goals and an assist for eight points while freshman attack James Carroll added three goals and a pair of assists. Freshman midfielder Christopher Klodowski also had a hat trick with three goals to go with an assist while freshman midfielder Alec Oriolo had a goal. Freshman attack Jack Gozzard had two assists while senior midfielder Dave Fiumara had one assist.

Freshman goalie Kurt Dick had 11 saves in the contest to go with a pair of ground balls while Laratta scooped up a team-high five ground balls and Carroll had three ground balls. Freshman defender John Polich led the Hounds with four caused turnovers to go with four ground balls while junior defender Ed Delia had three caused turnovers. Freshman midfielder Rick Guerra won 8-of-16 face-offs while freshman midfielder Hayden DuPont won 7-of-19 face-offs with three ground balls.

The Blue and Grey jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a man-up goal by Laratta just over five minutes into action, and a man-down goal from Carroll had the Hounds ahead 2-1 before Goucher took a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Gophers scored six straight goals to start the second quarter and had an 11-4 lead at the intermission. In the second half, Carroll scored again with Moravian a man-down and Laratta also had a man-down goal in the fourth quarter.

Moravian is scheduled to play its final home match of the season this Wednesday, April 20 when the squad hosts Immaculata University in non-conference action at Rocco Calvo Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
