Men's Lacrosse Ends Regular Season in Loss at Drew

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team ended its 2016 regular season Saturday in an 11-4 non-conference loss at Drew University.

The Greyhounds finished the year at 10-5; the first 10-win season in school history as the Blue and Grey were playing their first varsity campaign since 2010 after five years as a club sport.

Freshman attack James Carroll led Moravian with pair goals and an assist to finish the season with 38 goals, tied for the second most in a season in school history, and seven assists for 45 points, which is fifth all-time. Freshman attack Mark Laratta had a goal to set the school record with 39 goals this spring, and he finished the season with 48 points, the fourth most in a single season at Moravian.

Senior midfielder Dave Fiumara netted the Hounds other goals while freshmen attack Jack Gozzard and midfielders AJ Cioffi and Christopher Klodowski each had an assist. Klodowski and freshman midfielder Alec Oriolo both finished the season with 16 assists, tied for fifth in school history.

Freshman goalie Kurt Dick made 10 saves to finish the year with 156 stops, and he added three ground balls. Freshman midfielder Hayden DuPont won 7-of-10 face-offs and added four ground balls while Klodowski, junior defender Ed Delia and freshman defender John Polich all scooped up four ground balls with Delia adding three caused turnovers. Oriolo caused a pair of turnovers and Carroll added three ground balls.

Drew led 2-0 after the first 15 minutes of action, and the Rangers had a 3-0 lead before Carroll got Moravian on the scoreboard with 8:41 left in the second quarter. Carroll added a man-up goal later in the period but Drew held a 5-2 lead at the intermission. The Rangers scored the only three goals of the third quarter for an 8-2 lead after 45 minutes of action.

The Greyhounds will now wait until Monday, May 9 when the ECAC announces the field for the 2016 ECAC Championships to see if the season will continue.
