Greyhounds Use Big Second Half to Top College of Mount Saint Vincent

RIVERDALE, N.Y. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team outscored host College of Mount Saint Vincent, 12-4, over the final 45 minutes to turn an early deficit into a 16-9 non-conference win on the road Wednesday.

Senior midfielder Dave Fiumara scored six goals while freshman attack James Carroll netted four goals to lead the Greyhounds. Freshman midfielder Alec Oriolo scored six points on four goals and two assists while freshman midfielder Christopher Klodowski added six points a goal and five assists.

Freshman attack Jack Gozzard had Moravian's final goal to go with an assist while freshmen midfielders AJ Cioffi and Dominick Gurreri and freshman defender John Polich each had one assist in the win. Freshman midfielder Rick Guerra won 5-of-9 face-offs and had a team-high three ground balls while freshman midfielder Hayden DuPont won 8-of-16 face-offs with two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. 

Freshman goalie Kurt Dick made 11 saves in the victory for Moravian while freshmen defenders Brian Biase and Anthony Pontone each caused three turnovers. Freshman midfielder Robert Gellatly scooped up three ground balls for the Hounds.

The Blue and Grey fell behind just 34 seconds into action before Gozzard tied the match at 12:18 of the first. The Dolphins moved back in front 3-1 before Moravian tied the match at 4-4 on a goal from Oriolo with 1:29 left in the first quarter. However, Mount Saint Vincent found the cage with seven ticks on the clock to lead 5-4 after 15 minutes of action.

Fiumara would score twice in the second quarter, the second time with a man-up goal at 10:13 as Moravian moved in front, 6-5. Those would be the only two goals of the second period as the Greyhounds had the same 6-5 edge at halftime.

The Dolphins scored two of the first three goals of the third quarter to knot the score at 7-7 before Moravian scored eight straight times over the third and fourth quarters to build a 15-7 lead with 3:13 remaining in the contest.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Friday, March 25 in a non-conference match at Wilkes University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
