Hounds Split Two Contests on Second Day of Greyhound Premiere Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second day of the 20th Greyhound Premiere Invitational Saturday in Johnston as the Hounds defeated Centenary (N.J.) University, 3-0, before falling to Montclair State University, 3-1.

How It Happened – Centenary

  • After giving up the first point of the season, Moravian raced out to a 6-2 advantage against the Cyclones. The Hounds stretched the edge out to nine points, eventually taking the set 25-16
  • The second set followed very closely with an early 4-2 edge becoming a 25-15 set victory
  • Moravian trailed 8-2 in the third game, and the Blue & Grey were still down four points at 24-20 before rallying with seven of the final eight points to earn a 27-25 win to clinch the match 

How It Happened – Montclair State

  • The Red Hawks opened the contest with six straight points. The Greyhounds pushed back and closed within a point three times, the final time at 14-13 before Montclair State pulled away. The Red Hawks had the final five points of the game to take the set 25-18
  • Once again, Montclair State had an early lead in the second set at 4-1 before the Hounds countered. Moravian took the lead for good with a 5-0 run to take a 12-9 edge. The Blue & Grey also scored nine of the final 10 points in the set to even the contest at 1-1 after winning the game 25-16
  • The third set was back-and-forth early before the Red Hawks took control and won 25-15 to hold a 2-1 lead in the match
  • The Red Hawks started the fourth set with a 5-0 advantage and pushed that to a 25-17 set win to clinch the match

Inside the Numbers

  • Junior outside hitter Jenna Deegan led Moravian on the day with 17 kills in the two contests to go with four blocks while freshman middle blocker Payton Reuber recorded 13 kills and six blocks as she earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team
  • Junior Makenzie Krasley added 14 kills and a pair of blocks while graduate student outside hitter Kat Wilt posted 12 kills, 13 digs and six service aces Saturday
  • Freshman outside hitter Gabbie Reigner contributed 23 digs, 10 kills and five assists while senior middle blocker Autumn Marrero had seven kills and a trio of blocks
  • Sophomore setter Ally Plitnick led the Hounds with 34 assists to go with 18 digs and three kills while junior setter Emily Solomon added 21 assists, 11 digs, two kills and a pair of service aces
  • Senior libero Kat DeYesso contributed 12 digs and four service aces while freshman libero Sam Love had nine digs, five assists and a pair of service aces
  • Freshman setter Molly Hughes added four assists and three digs while senior middle blocker Grace Silfani had three kills and senior outside hitter Sophie Bauer recorded five digs and two kills
