Cheong Earns Corvias/ECAC DIII South Rookie of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. --- Moravian College freshman jumper Melissa Cheong has been named the Corvias/ECAC Division III South Women's Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week for her performance last week.

Cheong earned Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year honors along with an All-Conference First Team selection by winning the high jump, clearing 1.57 meters (5-1.75). Cheong was on the All-Conference Second Team for runner-up finishes in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of in 9.54 seconds and the long jump at 5.03 meters (16-6).

"Melissa just had a great weekend," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "She shook off some jitters and opened up the meet with a win in the high jump, tying her season PR. The long jump unfortunately conflicted with the hurdles or she likely would have jumped even further than she did, but she still managed to jump 16'6" and ran within 0.1 seconds of ECACs in the hurdles, running a PR in the process. We're still working on her approach in the long jump, and aspects of her hurdling technique so she has hardly scratched the surface of where she can be. She still managed to score 26 points for us in her first ever conference meet and the best is yet to come."

The Greyhounds return to action on Friday, March 6 at the 2015 ECAC Division III Indoor Championships at New York City Armory.
