Cullen & Dickerson Named Men's Basketball Team Captains

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior center Cameron Cullen and junior guard Izel Dickerson have been named captains for the 2013-14 Moravian College men's basketball season.

Cullen, who will be in the starting line-up for the second straight season, averaged 10.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game a year ago for the Greyhounds. Cullen has played in 76 of a possible 77 games in his career with 32 starts. He has 457 points, 336 rebounds, 51 assists, 46 steals, 20 three-pointers and 18 blocked shots in his career. Cullen has scored in double figures in 20 games during his career including a career-high 21 points at Susquehanna last January, and he had a career-best 14 rebounds at Haverford last season. Cullen has five double-doubles in his first three seasons.

"Cameron is a battle-tested and proven leader for our program," stated Head Coach Jim Walker, who is entering his 34th season at the school. "Having been a contributor his previous three years, he knows the hard work and the mentality it takes to succeed as a college basketball player. He is willing to share those experiences with our younger guys to help bring them along. His ability to lead through his voice and his actions make him a great captain for this team. Cameron's veteran leadership and his physical toughness both rub off onto his teammates and will be key factors throughout the season."

Dickerson is expected to move into the starting line-up this season after seeing action in all 52 games during his first two seasons with 26 starts. Dickerson averaged 8.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest last winter, and he was named the Most Valuable Player of the 35th Annual Greyhound Classic after scoring a then career-high 23 points in the championship game as the Greyhounds defeated New Jersey City University in overtime. Dickerson posted a career-best 26 points at The United States Merchant Marine Academy last February. He has contributed 367 points, 111 rebounds, 91 assists, 48 steals and 45 three-pointers in his first two years with the program.

"Izel has all the attributes to be a very effective leader for us this season," Walker said. "He possesses a toughness and intelligence on the court that teammates easily feed off of. He has made a huge leap from his sophomore to junior years on the court and off the court and he carries himself as a great role model for our young team. His encouragement and poise bring confidence to his teammates on the floor. Izel's ability to get guys involved in the offense builds team chemistry which will be counted on heavily for a successful season."

The Greyhounds will begin their 2013-14 season on Friday, November 15 at the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jay Invitational as Moravian takes on host Johns Hopkins at 8:00 p.m. The Greyhounds first home game of the year is slated for Tuesday, November 19 when rival Muhlenberg College comes to Johnston Hall for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
