BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Moravian College head men's basketball coach Jim Walker has always urged his players to find success at the free-throw line during his 34-year stint in Bethlehem, and the veteran headman will get a chance to practice what he preaches as he heads to the charity stripe to raise money and awareness for cancer research.

Walker will take part in a marathon free throw shooting session beginning on Monday, Jan. 20 and ending on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Coach Walker will shoot freebies for one hour a day for 24 straight days and is asking friends, family and fans of the Greyhounds to pledge $1 for every 1,000 free throws made over the course of the marathon to be donated as part of the National Association of Basketball Coaches vs. Cancer.

"I think it's another great way to use the game of basketball to lend a helping hand," Walker said. "It's great to be able to find people to team up with Moravian basketball in the fight against cancer."

It is estimated that Walker will make between 10,000 and 15,000 free throws during the sessions.

This year's NABC Coaches vs. Cancer Day at Moravian College is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25. The men's basketball coaches will participate in the NABC Suits and Sneakers Cancer Awareness Weekend when the Greyhounds play host to Susquehanna University at 2 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
