Men's Basketball Falls to Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian College men's basketball team dropped a 97-56 Landmark Conference game at The Catholic University of America Saturday.

Senior forward Cameron Cullen led the Greyhounds with 17 points while senior guard Kenny Gula tossed in 10 points. Senior center Blake English added nine points and six rebounds for Moravian while junior forward Garrett Kashmer added six boards as well.

Corey Stanford led Catholic with 20 points while Bryson Fonville added 19 points and eight assists. Steve Limberiou had a game-high nine rebounds to go with his 11 points for the Cardinals

Catholic scored the opening three points of the game before a lay-up by Cullen netted the Greyhounds first points. Moravian trailed 11-8 after a lay-up from junior guard Izel Dickerson with 16:45 left in the first half. The Cardinals then went on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to build a 21-8 advantage.

Moravian scored the next six points to pull within 21-14 on a free throw at 9:49 by Dickerson, who finished the game with five points, but the Cardinals quickly put their lead back into double digits and kept it there for the rest of the half.

The Greyhounds headed to the locker room trailing 48-26 after struggling to shoot the ball in the first half, making 11-of-34 field goal attempts and just 2-of-9 free throws. Moravian committed just two turnovers in the game's opening 20 minutes while Catholic had just five miscues. The Cardinals connected on 17-of-30 field goal attempts and 11-of-13 free throws in the first half.

Catholic continued to shoot the ball well in the second half, hitting on 16-of-31 field goal attempts and 10-of-11 free throws, and the Cardinals extended their lead to as many as 41 points with 2:26 left in the game. Moravian improved its shooting in the second half, making 12-of-25 field goal attempts; however, the Hounds were just 6-for-17 at the foul line during the game.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, January 22 in a Landmark Conference game at the United States Merchant Marine Academy tipping off at 7:00 p.m.
