Moravian's Fourth Quarter Rally Falls Short Versus Elizabethtown College

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team scored six goals in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to overtime an eight-goal deficit as the Greyhounds fell to visiting Elizabethtown College, 13-11, in Landmark Conference action under the lights of John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening.

The Hounds, now 7-5 overall and 1-3 in Landmark Conference play, had six goal scorers in the contest led by senior attack Mark Laratta, who had four goals to go with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Junior attack Cade Siddron contributed two goals and three assists while freshman attack Connor James netted two goals. Senior midfielder Dominick Gurreri added a goal and an assist while senior midfielder Alec Oriolo and sophomore attack Matt Comini both had one goal. Sophomore attack Connor Hull added two assists.

Moravian senior goalie Kurt Dick made one save and scooped up two ground balls in the first half of the match while sophomore goalie Will Dadouris recorded three saves in the second half. Senior midfielder Rick Guerra was 20-for-28 on face-offs while senior defender Brian Biase scooped up a team-high five ground balls. Junior long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke added three ground balls and three caused turnovers while sophomore defender Tanner Leslie had three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Peter Degnan also contributed three ground balls.

The Blue Jays scored twice in the first three and a half minutes before Laratta took a feed from Siddron for the Greyhounds' first goal with 9:07 to play in the first quarter. Oriolo scored to knot the match at 2-2; however, a late goal from Elizabethtown had the Blue Jays leading 3-2 after 15 minutes of action.

Elizabethtown scored the first four goals of the second quarter before late tallies from Siddron and Laratta cut the deficit to 7-4 at the intermission. The Blue Jays added six more goals in the third quarter while Gurreri scored for the Blue and Grey as the Hounds trailed 13-5 after 45 minutes of action.

Moravian would find the net six times in the fourth quarter including a pair of man-up goals by James, but the Greyhounds had just 16 seconds to play after Laratta's fourth goal of the night cut the deficit to two.

The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 13 in a non-conference match at No. 7 Cabrini University beginning at 1:00 p.m.
