Greg Jaindl honored as Landmark Conference Men's Corss Country Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Junior Gregory Jaindl has been honored as the Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

Jaindl, who earned his second Landmark Conference accolade of the fall, won the 8,000-meter race at the Moravian/Cedar Crest Invitational run at Bicentennial Park Friday evening with a personal best time of 25:42.3 on the course, which is also the tenth fastest time in school history, to pace the 83 runners.

"We did a race pace workout about three weeks ago in some extreme heat where I was starting to see signs Greg was at a level I haven't seen from him before," noted Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "Friday was another clear example of that where he went out, on a relatively slow course, led from the gun and set a PR. To do that, considering all those circumstances and it still only being mid-September is extraordinary and I think the surge we've seen from him ever since his steeplechase ascension last April is clearly continuing. When we get to some quicker courses with better competition at Paul Short and Rowan, I'm thinking he could flirt with the 25:00 barrier. It's fun to watch him grow exponentially in his time here. You don't always see that much of a linear improvement into junior year, but he's still gaining by leaps and bounds."

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, September 29 in the annual Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on the Goodman Campus in South Bethlehem.
