BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- With a break from the snow, the Moravian College baseball team picked up an extra non-conference game against the No. 13 Misericordia University. The Greyhounds fell to Cougars, 10-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Gillespie Field.
Seniors left fielder Justin Pilchman, third basemen Ryan Luke and second basemen Alex Longernecker all had hits on the day.
Misericordia jumped out to a 2-0 lead throug the first two innings of play. In the bottom of the second,Pilchman singled to right center while Luke followed him up with a single to left field, but the Hounds couldn't keep the bats going to bring in a run and cut the lead.
After a one-two-three top third inning, Moravian started the home portion with a double from Longernecker, his first of the season. Sophomore center fielder Anthony Gaetaniello laid down the sacrifice bunt and just missing being safe at first advanced the Longernecker to third. Senior Colin Case grounded out to second but not before the Longernecker crossed the plate. That would be the only time the Greyhounds scored.
The Hounds used five pitchers in the game with junior Anthony Zaloga taking the loss in his first start of the season as he struck out three batters in four innings of work. Sophomore Nicolas Ampierto and freshmen Adam Howard, Paul Roth and Bryan Schoch each saw time on the mound with Howard tossing two innings while the other three each worked an inning. Roth struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh inning.
Due to projected weather for Friday, the Blue and Grey will begin their series against Landmark Conference opponent Drew University on Thursday, April 2 with the first pitch set for 4:00 p.m. in Madison, New Jersey.
