BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team opened its 2014-15 home season with a 6-3 non-conference victory over Albright College Wednesday afternoon at Hoffman Courts.
The Hounds, who improve to 2-0 in the fall portion of their season, opened up a 2-1 lead in the doubles action. Senior Lewis Cooper and sophomore Giovanni Lombardi earned an 8-5 win at second doubles while sophomore Dan Schmucker and freshman David Wilson posted an 8-0 sweep at third doubles. Moravian's top doubles tandem of juniors Matt Tuorto and John Wylie rallied to for a tiebreaker at first doubles before falling 9-4 (7-4) at first doubles.
Tuorto would also rally in singles action after dropping his first set for a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) win at first singles. Wylie also played three sets in singles, falling in a third set tiebreaker, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4). Cooper, Wilson and Schmuker won in straight sets in singles to clinch the victory for the Greyhounds. Cooper posted a 7-5, 6-3 win at third singles, coming back from an early deficit in the first set while Wilson won 6-2, 6-0 at fifth singles. Schmucker had a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at sixth singles in his first dual match of the season.
The Greyhounds acre scheduled to return to action on Sunday, September 14 at the Muhlenberg College Fall Classic.
