Moravian Picks Up Two More Event Wins & Three ECAC Qualifiers at Kutztown 6-Team Qualifier

KUTZTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's indoor track & field squad competed in the Kutztown University 6-Team Qualifier on Saturday in the Hounds' final tune-up for the 2017 Landmark Conference Championships.

The Greyhounds had a pair of winners with senior Kahron Walker winning the high jump at 1.90 meters (6-2.75) and sophomore Scott Goodwin capturing the pole vault at an ECAC qualifying height of 4.67 meters (15-3.75). Goodwin is now 29th on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list in the event and within six inches of being high enough on the list to compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships next month as the top 15 will participate in the championships.

Senior Greg Cahill had an ECAC qualifying mark in the 35-pound weight throw as he finished fourth at 15.49 meters (50-10), and senior Kyle Hagerty was the runner-up in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 6.66 meters (21-10.25). Senior Jamil Poole placed eighth in the long jump at 6.02 meters (19-9) while freshman Roland Cash was the runner-up in the triple jump at 13.02 meters (42-8.75) and junior Preston Weidner finished seventh in the pole vault at 3.71 meters (12-2)..

On the track, senior Austin Gardener was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 23.36 seconds with Poole finishing seventh in 24.17 seconds and sophomore Baru Roberson in ninth at 24.93 seconds. Junior Eric Morton was fourth in the finals of the 55-meter dash in 6.66 seconds while sophomore Chris Antoine was eighth in the preliminaries in 6.93 seconds. Sophomore John Spirk took fifth in the 55-meter hurdle final in 8.15 seconds while freshman Brendan Foley was tenth in the preliminaries in 9.19 seconds. Junior Andrew Mitchell placed seventh in the 400-meter run in 53.43 seconds while senior Cory Taggert was ninth in 53.60 seconds.

Freshman Alex Tursi was ninth in the 800-meter run in 2:08.24 while sophomore Peter Milewski took seventh in the 3,000-meter run in 9:39.27 and was followed by sophomore Benjamin Smith in eighth at 9:40.92 and sophomore Josh Toth in tenth at 10:44.55. The Greyhounds' 4x400-meter relay squad of Mitchell, junior Mike Kopach and freshmen Justin Beasley-Turner and Greg Jaindl finished fourth in 3:40.96.

Moravian will try to defend its Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday, February 25 in the 2017 meet hosted by Susquehanna University. The Greyhounds have won seven in a row and eight total Landmark Championships.
