TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior forward Alesha Marcks has been selected as the Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for her performance over the last seven days.
Marcks had one of her best weeks in a Moravian uniform as she averaged 21.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game last week with her first two career double-doubles as the Greyhounds went 3-0 in Landmark Conference action. Marcks also shot 51.1 percent (23-of-45) from the floor and 86.4 percent (19-of-22) at the foul line while adding 11 blocked shots, nine assists and four steals in 93 minutes of action.
"Alesha's week was as good as three games combined as anyone I have coached through the years," commented 28th-year Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "As a team we talked about everyone raising their game to a different level and Alesha took it up a notch. Her stats were amazing but more than that her energy and leadership were outstanding. Alesha works hard and we hope will continue to perform at a high level for the rest of the season."
Marcks opened the week with her first career double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds to go along with a career high four blocked shots in a 64-52 win at USMMA. She then had 22 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and another four blocked shots in a 68-55 victory versus Drew. Marcks finished the week with a career-high 30 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor and a 14-for-16 performance at the charity stripe along with eight rebounds and three blocked shots in a 75-69 victory at Elizabethtown.
Marcks moved into a tie for 10th in school history with 61 career blocked shots with her 11 for the week, and she is in the top five in career free throw shooting percentage. This season, Marcks is leading the Hounds in scoring at 16.1 points per game in her first year as a starter, and she also tops the squad at the foul line, connecting on 82.9 percent (68-of-82) of her free throws.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, January 14 when the squad heads to Goucher College for a 7:00 p.m. Landmark Conference contest.
