Greyhounds Blank Juniata to Begin 2018 Landmark Conference Season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse team posted the first shutout in program history as the Greyhounds blanked visiting Juniata College, 19-0, on John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon to begin the 2018 Landmark Conference season.

The Hounds, now 5-1 on the season, had 10 different players score goals with junior attack Jillian Picciuto leading the way with four goals and two assists. Freshman midfielder Meaghan McMullan also had four goals to go along with an assist, 10 draw controls, five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while sophomore midfielder Liz Bill had a hat trick. Freshman attack Danielle Sullivan contributed two goals and two assists while senior attack Kyleigh McGovern had a goal and an assist.

Freshman midfielder Olivia Clearie, sophomore defender Allie Brembt, sophomore midfielder Allie Fisher, junior attack Dalia Aguilar and junior attack Jessica Pisano all had one goal in the victory. Fisher added two ground balls and two draw controls while senior defender Alexis Kersten had a pair of caused turnovers.

The Greyhounds used a trio of goalies for the first shutout for Moravian in its 11th season. Junior Kelley Gavin made the start and had one save while playing the first half while freshman Courtney Heist and senior Elisabeth Pontius combined in the second half with Heist playing 22 minutes and Pontius in goal for the final eight minutes.

Clearie opened the scoring 2:04 into action, and the Greyhounds scored a total of seven goals in the first 5:31 of play. The Blue and Grey would lead 17-0 at halftime. The Hounds had an efficient offense in the contest, putting 23-of-28 shots on goal and 19 into the back of the net, and the squad won 16 of 20 draw controls and had 24 ground balls.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 28 in a non-conference match at DeSales University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
