BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team was playing at home for the second straight day as the Greyhounds fell to Wilkes University, 2-0, in non-conference action on the HUB Quad Saturday afternoon.

The Hounds controlled the play early in the match with senior defender Kaylan Bruzzone nearly putting a header in off of a corner kick in the 12th minute. Moravian took the first five shots of the contest with the closet one to finding the back of the net coming in the 28th minute as senior midfielder/forward Kirsten Schall hitting the crossbar from eight yards out.

"I thought the girls approached the game the right way," stated Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "Our test was to come out and see if we could play on back-to-back days, and the girls responded real well to it.

The Greyhounds had a 7-3 edge in shots in the first half and would out-shoot Wilkes, 16-9, in the match. Moravian also had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks including all three taken in the second half. They responded real well and moved the ball in the first half. We had opportunities to finish in the back of the net but it just wasn't there.

"You have to give Wilkes credit. They are really organized on the back line which is very, very good. They were able to keep us a distance away from the goal by making us create away from the goal instead in the box. That is a good back line that we went against but we still had some opportunities," concluded Ykoruk.

The Colonels finally broke the scoreless tie with a penalty kick in the 61st minute when Moravian was called for a hand ball in the box, and Wilkes also tallied on a long shot in the 68th minute to account for the scoring in the match.

Moravian junior goalie Jacqueline Zalis made three saves in the contest.

The Greyhounds will now hit the road for nearly three weeks before returning to the HUB Quad. Moravian's next match is scheduled for Saturday, September 6 at Eastern Nazarene College located in Quincy, Massachusetts outside of Boston.
